Dewey and Juniper: Two Emergencies. Two Lives Saved.

Juniper and Dewey

A happy update on Dewey! He is doing very well in his healing journey. His appetite and energy are completely back to normal, and all he wants to do is run, jump, and play — all the things he is not allowed to do just yet while he continues to recover. Our staff is keeping a close eye on his abdominal incision and it has been healing beautifully. He was recently switched to a soft cone and absolutely loves it — the first thing he did was curl up and use it as a pillow for a nap.

Dewey is now back at PAWS and will stay on restricted activity for another week while he finishes healing. We are so grateful to have our sweet boy back and improving every day.

For those who may have missed his story, Dewey suddenly stopped eating and seemed uncomfortable. Emergency vet care revealed a life-threatening intestinal blockage caused by a small piece of corn cob. He was rushed into surgery to remove it, but shortly afterward he became septic and had to undergo a second emergency surgery to save his life.

Two major surgeries.
Critical care.
Hospitalization.
Round-the-clock monitoring.

Dewey fought incredibly hard, and thanks to his veterinary team he is now recovering well. However, his medical bills have reached several thousand dollars.

At the same time, another one of our dogs, Juniper, experienced a rare complication during her routine spay surgery when a severe blood clot developed. She required an additional procedure and intensive monitoring, adding to the unexpected medical expenses. Thankfully, Juniper recovered and is now healing safely in her forever home.

At PAWS Adoption Center, every lifesaving decision is made possible by our community. As a private nonprofit shelter, we receive no government funding, so emergency surgeries like these are covered entirely by donations.

If you are able to donate, share this post, or help spread the word, you become part of Dewey and Juniper’s survival stories. Because of you, Dewey’s tail keeps wagging. Because of you, Juniper gets her future. And because of you, we can keep saying yes when the next animal in crisis needs our help.
