Position Description
The Executive Director is a results oriented, enthusiastic, energetic individual who will provide leadership for a private, no kill, non-profit animal shelter in Middletown, Ohio and be responsible for fund raising, public relations and oversight of the shelter operations.
Skill Sets
- A leader with the maturity, professional demeanor and ethics to be an effective and respected representative of the organization
- Ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple plans in order to meet the many and varied demands of the organization
- An effective communicator - both written and oral
- Fundraising or sales experience
- Interpersonal skills
- Advocate for animals and animal rights
Duties and Responsibilities
- Fundraising
- Assist the Event Coordinator with two signature events
- Develop, plan and execute two other small fundraisers
- Identify and build relationships with current and potential donors
- Identify appropriate grants and prepare grant applications
- Public Relations
- Spokesperson for PAWS, increasing its presence in the community (Butler County, Ohio) through networking and other appropriate activities
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with other animal shelters and rescue groups.

- Oversee the management of shelter operations in accordance with Board approved shelter policies and operating plans
- Work closely with the Board of Directors and attend all Board meetings
- Maintain regular communication with the Board President keeping him/her apprised of any concerns or issues in a timely manner
- Fiscal Accountability
- Understand financial reports, forecasts and budgets
- Ensure compliance with and implementation of Board financial policies
- Ensure adherence to internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets

- Recruit, train and supervise non-shelter volunteers, i.e. volunteers working in the fund raising or public relations arena
